Video; Very Disturbing Health Effects of Gas Drilling on Cows, Cats, and People

March 3, 2011

This video was taken recently on a farm located in Northwest corner North Dakota.  It shows some terrible health effects that began shortly after unconventional natural gas drilling established itself there.  Please know that this is seriously upsetting footage showing what has been happening to the farm’s cows, pet cats, and the people who live there.  Respiratory ailments, lesions, blood oozing from the eyes, and death.

According to the folks at Bakken Watch who are keeping an eye on natural gas development in North Dakota, air monitoring stations in the area where this video was taken were shut down back in 2009.   Bakken Watch is currently trying to set up an affordable environmental testing service for people in North Dakota who find themselves affected.  Testing some of the polluted water and white material in the family’s basement from this film is essential in showing a connection to drilling and development.

Thank you for posting the video and helping raise awareness. We’d like to point out that the fracking done in North Dakota, at this point, is not for natural gas–it is for oil. All of the wells near the farm in the video are for oil development. However, gas has been detected in every county in the state (except one county where testing has not been done). Soon, oil/gas companies also plan to frack for gas. Thanks again for your work!

Thank you for the clarification on that point.
