Urgent: Deny Moxie Fracked Gas Power Plant Permit | Comment Deadline 5pm TODAY!

January 14, 2013

Lycoming County, PA. - Area residents turned out in large numbers at a recent PA state Department of Environmental Protection hearing on the proposed fracked gas power plant for Clinton Township.  They were joined by Philadelphia area residents including Liz Arnold, DJ Robinson, Matt Walker and Gretchen Alfonso, all of whom are quoted in this Sun-Gazette article, Absolutely Not: Many Oppose Power Plant.

Please join your voices to theirs and submit your comments right now using this link (please personalize!):  http://citizenspeak.org/campaign/saynotofracking/urgent-deny-moxie-fracked-gas-power-plant-permit

Or, send your own short email to Mr. Muhammed Zaman, Environmental Program Manager, PA DEP Air Quality Program, North Central Regional office: mzaman@state.pa.us.

Suggested message:

I am writing to urgently request that you deny the permit for the Moxie power plant in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. This shale gas plant would harm the health of residents, who live in an Environmental Justice area. It would accelerate climate change. And, there is no demonstrated need for it.  Don’t rubber-stamp this power plant.

I thought of a quick way to personalize the petition and I think I will use it for PA State agencies when I cannot think of anything else: Please do your constitutionally mandated job: Article I, section 27 of the Pennsylvania Constitution provides as follows:

Sec. 27. Natural Resources and the Public Estate

The people have a right to clean air, pure water, and to the preservation of the natural, scenic, historic and esthetic values of the environment. Pennsylvania’s public natural resources are the common property of all the people, including generations yet to come. As trustee of these resources, the Commonwealth shall conserve and maintain them for the benefit of all the people.
