Perks from Pennsylvania drilling interests

February 15, 2011

Pennsylvania ethics rules allow for gifts from industry to elected officials.

Superbowl tickets, travel and lodging all paid for by drilling company Consol Energy Inc went to Joe Scarnati (R., Jefferson), Senate President Pro Tempore.

Nothing illegal, but an argument could be made that the gifts are a strong influence on decision making and opinion.

Scarnati has been blocking an extraction tax on the gas and oil industry in Pennsylvania.
