Guy Earthquake Swarm: Arkansas Mystery Quakes May Be Result Of ‘Fracking’ Disposal
For three or four months now small tremors have been quaking a few small Arkansas towns. Over 700 quakes in a six month period.
Huffington Post is reporting that these earthquakes, now known as the Guy earthquake swarm, could be the result of hydrolic fracturing waste disposal.
“Geologists don’t believe the production wells are the problem, but rather the injection wells that are used to dispose of “frack” water when it can no longer be re-used. The wastewater is pressurized and injected into the ground,” say the Arkansas Geological Survey. There is currently a moratorium in place, allowing for some time to study the relationship between natural gas development and the earthquakes in the area.
