Drilling Pollutes Bradford County Pennsylvania Family’s Home and Groundwater

February 24, 2011

From the Pennsylvania House Democratic Caucus pahousevideo’s Youtube Channel comes the story of the McMikens whose family built home is now contaminated with explosive levels of methane gas and their well water is polluted as a result of nearby natural gas drilling activity.  DEP officials encouraged the family to evacuate their home.  Their home and property value has plummeted 85% while the industry player in the area, Chesapeake Energy, gets a free ride.

    Please can you help?

I am an undergraduate at Salford University in Manchester (England), currently studying for a BSc in Environmental Health. For my dissertation I have chosen to research the environmental impact of shale gas extraction in America and the possible implications for Europe.

In order for me to have a better understanding of the problems, I have devised a brief online questionnaire, which ideally needs to be completed by people who currently live within a drilling area.

I note from your web site that your organisation has an interest in the environment, and I wonder therefore if any of your members would be able to help by filling out the online survey, or alternatively by passing this email on to their friends or work colleagues.

Any information provided will be completely confidential, and will only be used for the purpose of this study

In order to view or complete the questionnaire, please click on the following link

Thank you for taking the time to read this email and if you require any further information my university email address is j.k.gallagher@edu.salford.ac.uk

Hi Joanna. Hopefully some of our readers and visitors to our blog can help you out by filling out your survey themselves or by passing it along to folks they know in areas currently affected by drilling. Best to you in your studies. Peace.
