Mountain Lake Park Maryland joins Pittsburgh PA with local ordinance banning gas drilling
A little over 50 miles Southeast of Morgantown West Virginia, Mountain Lake Park Maryland just adopted a Community Rights Ordinance banning natural gas drilling.
Mayor Leo Martin of Mountain Lake Park said, “The people have rights. Corporations can’t be licensed to take them away. Our town government is responsible for the health, safety, and rights our citizens. When the county, state, and federal governments fail in their duties it is our duty to take action.”
Working with The Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund (CELDF), Mountain Lake Place unanimously adopted the Community Bill of Rights which also “removes legal powers from gas extraction corporations within the town.”
