Democracy Now Feature on Leaked EPA Documents

March 9, 2011

The Friday March 4th Democracy Now broadcast followed up on the recent New York Times series of articles and featured the story of  leaked EPA documents and the efforts of industry and politics to keep important facts hidden from the public.

Hosts Amy Goodman and Juan Gonzales talk to president of Toxics Targeting Walter Hang and Gasland Film Director Josh Fox.

The first part of Democracy Now’s story covers the efforts by lawmakers and EPA scientists to regulate the natural gas industry and the process of hydraulic fracking while science is being hidden, facts removed, and policy altered in secret.

Following this up is a short conversation with Josh Fox about how the oil and gas industry attacked and tried to discredit his film and the notion that there is anything dangerous about unconventional natural gas development.

Clearville PA was an experimental ground for the gas industry in 2002. Horizontal wells were drilled, well completion logs show they used HCI. Wastes were released into an exceptional watershed, Sideling Hill Watershed, once potable now pukable. Seeing is believing. Living
the nightmare, fears never end once a horizontal well has been drilled with toxic man made chemicals exempted from the SDWA.
Too late for your health in PA near the drill. No underground surveillance cameras and the surface is protected by environmental agencies staffed with gas industry officials or paid for by the gas industry. Humans Health is at risk and no one is warning them. What kind of democracy does this to the citizens? Shame on GREED via political arms.
