Lewisburg West Virginia Bans Marcellus Shale Drilling
250 miles to the South of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, tucked in the Appalachian Mountains, another community has spoken up and joined a growing list of others that want local control when it comes to Marcellus Shale development. Lewisburg West Virginia banned unconventional natural gas drilling in their community and are hoping that this will send a message to the state’s Governor.
“Lewisburg City Council members Tuesday passed two measures concerning drilling from Marcellus Shale, Mayor John Manchester said. One measure banned any further drilling from Marcellus Shale within the city limits. The other was a resolution to protect citizens from any contaminated water from Marcellus Shale drilling.”
