Top-level approval of drilling under fire; DEP now says new policy is temporary

April 2, 2011

A temporary procedural change lasting 3 months is now how long the DEP is stating the pre-approval of violations, inspections, permits and regulations by Michael Krancer and other top DEP officials will last.

“As state legislators called for investigations and urged the Corbett administration to rescind new procedures that require top political appointees to approve all Marcellus Shale drilling enforcement actions, the Department of Environmental Protection issued a ‘clarification’ that the change will be temporary.”

“The word we heard ad nauseam [during Mr. Corbett’s campaign] was transparency, and this decision to abdicate the decisions of men and women in the field was made in the secret, with no debate and no discussion,” Rep. Bill DeWeese, D-Greene said.

As much as Corbett and Co. are corrupt, worthless hacks, that’s pretty rich coming from Bill DeWeese. A corrupt hack in his own right.
