Action Alert: Letter for EPA/Susquehanna River Basin Forum

April 5, 2011

The Susqehanna River drains 27,500 square miles covering nearly half of the land area of Pennsylvania and portions of New York and Maryland, approximately 444 miles long it is the longest river on the American east coast that drains into the Atlantic Ocean, and with its watershed it is the 16th largest river in the United States

Dear Protectors,

Please take a few minutes to email EPA head Lisa Jackson to ask her for a forum in the Susquehanna River Basin to protect our neighboring watershed.  There has already been significant water withdrawal from the Susquehanna River as well as wastewater dumpings.

Chesapeake stated in an application to the SRBC that over the next four years, its operations alone will need 20-25 million gallons a day to meet their needs.”

You can use this form letter and the email contacts listed below.

Dear Lisa Jackson,

Please have a SUSQUEHANNA RIVER BASIN FORUM like the one EPA hosted on 3/10/11 for the Delaware River Basin Forum to assess and address threats to drinking water and public health effects in the watershed for stakeholders. The Susquehanna Watershed has no marcellus shale drilling moratorium as the Delaware Watershed currently has. The Susquehanna Watershed already has contaminated aquifers, exploding homes, sick residents, illegal drilling waste fluid dumping into the river, streams, roads etc. Please help us save ourselves from losing our drinking water and our health. Please give us the same consideration you already extended to the Delaware Watershed.
