Range Resources Threatens to Stop Drilling in Mt. Pleasant Township, PA if New Ordinance is Passed
“We may be forced to shift activity to other, more cooperative townships.”
This is the message of a recent letter from Marcellus Shale drilling company Range Resources to officials and citizens in Mt Pleasant Township, Pennsylvania. The township is considering a new ordinance on gas and oil drilling.
The Mt Pleasant officials have tried to protect their community with the proposed ordinance, looking at ways to address pollution from noise, light, odors and also consider buffer areas. The committee has taken the approach that unconventional natural gas drilling development in the Marcellus Shale should not take place at the expense of quality of life.
“If the township is still uncooperative, we are prepared to explore all options, including no longer drilling,” said Matt Pitzarella, a Range Resources spokesman.
