Free Benefit Concert for Protecting Our Waters This Saturday, Dec. 14!

December 11, 2013

humbleman poster

In honor of Director Iris Marie Bloom’s imminent move, Humbleman Band is holding a free concert to benefit Protecting Our Waters!

When: Saturday December 14th, 2-4 pm
Where: Valley Green Inn, right on the Wissahickon.

Iris leaves Philly the very next day, so this is our last chance to celebrate her move and Protecting Our Waters’ work with her before she goes! Iris will remain Executive Director from afar (with regular visits to Philly), while Joanne Douglass and I will be the Philly point people, as Community Organizer and Associate Director respectively. If you haven’t met us (or Iris) yet, this is your chance! Or you could attend one of the many public hearings, protests, and events Joanne and I will be attending, but you won’t get a much nicer setting than Valley Green Inn!
Donations will be very welcome, of course, and accepted in cash or check.
If you haven’t heard Humbleman Band’s music, check out their Facebook Page or their Bandcamp page. Besides putting on this concert for us, they’ve even set up a Facebook event page for the concert.

We hope to see you there!

Testimony about proposed pipeline must be sent to the Pinelands Commission by 5pm Friday December 13. Send to Subject heading: “Official MOA Testimony”. Feel free to use all or part of letter below.

    Dear Pinelands Commissioners,

I strongly object to the building of the proposed SJ Gas / BL England Pipeline through
the Pinelands. The Comprehensive Management Plan prohibits using the Forest Management
Area as a transit route for pipelines, unless it is “intended to primarily serve the

needs of the Pinelands.” N.J.A.C. 7:50-5.23.

Clearly, the pipeline will only hurt the needs of the Pinelands. This unique ecosystem
needs to be protected for the benefit of wildlife as well as humans. Pipelines leak toxic

materials into water tables. They also explode. The Pipeline Hazardous Materials Safety
Administration lists many accidents and problems associated with gas lines.
